Remember Springwater in Your Year-End Charitable Giving

This the time of the year when we focus on giving—gifts to our family and friends, and gifts to our favorite charities. Did you know that you can make a tax-deductible gift to Springwater? As you are considering your favorite charities for a year-end gift this year, please consider Springwater. Take some time to talk with your kids about charities that need our support, the important work they do, and how our giving allows them to continue this work. This is a fun way to involve the family and teach our children about the value and importance of philanthropy. Use this link to make your contribution: Your support is important to ensure the best teachers, programs, facilities and education for our children, year after year. Become a part of “The Circle of Sustainable Friends!” by making a monthly contribution, or make a one-time gift. Springwater depends on your generous support. Share the link with friends and family members. Springwater is a 501 (c)(3) organization and all contribution and gifts are tax deductible.

Attention Battle of the Books Students!!!

It is absolutely thrilling to see that so many of you are as excited about Battle of the Books as we are! It looks like it will be a terrific contest this year, and I can’t wait until January for the battles to officially begin. However, some business to finish before then – I have several Sportsmanship Contracts that have been signed for people to participate, but no matching team rosters. I also have several team rosters where I am missing Contracts for at least one of the team members. PLEASE make sure that you have turned it both your Contract and your team roster – it would be a shame to inadvertently miss a team when creating the brackets because I have no roster! Double-check with your team members to make sure everything has been turned in, and you are welcome to email or call me to double-check whether I have your paperwork. If in doubt, then either pick up an extra copy outside the office or print off a copy of what you need, fill it in, and turn it into the office (or your teacher) by the end of school on Monday, Dec. 3rd.

PARENTS: Please check with your student that they have turned in BOTH items, particularly as the Sportsmanship Contract needs your signature too! And if you are available to volunteer your time beginning January during one or more lunch periods, let me know! We will need extra bodies to help as the battles officially begin, and we would love to see you there!

Any questions, please email Beth Cummings at or call 503-395-8696. You can also get most questions answered on the Springwater website, under the News category!

Bus Safety at Evangelical Church

Parents, please remember that there is a child safety zone that we try very hard to keep car-free. Just like the rest of you, I occasionally have kids that I have a hard time getting ready in the morning, which means I may be running late. However, I am the only one that does the cones. So please, if you see the cones not there, please respect the space regardless. A lot of the students will be heading for the bus, and the last thing we want to happen is to have someone get hurt. And when you’re running late – it’s even more important to respect this because you’re probably not the only one who is, and the kids will be rushing even more and not paying as much attention as they might otherwise be. Thank you for working so hard to help keep the parking lot safe and accident-free!

Fundraising Committee Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday December 5th at 7 p.m. at Darcey Bone’s house—1306 7th Street, Oregon City, Oregon, the white house on top of Hillside Chapel. We will be debriefing the holiday fundraisers and planning for the future. Please join us! We have lots of fun activities planned for the year and we need all the volunteer support we can get. There is something for everyone. Please RSVP to Darcey at

Shoparoo App for Schools

There is an app for the iPhone called Shoparoo that is a fundraiser for schools. You take a picture of your receipts from grocery stores and such, and you receive points in return. Eventually these points are turned into money that is then sent to a school of your choice. It’s that easy and they have an app for both iPhones and Android.

Annual Snow Day!

The snow is falling on Mt. Hood. It’s time to start thinking about Springwater Snow Day 2013. Dust off that snow gear… bring out those sleds. You’re guaranteed a day of laughter, friendships and family fun! Unforgettable fun, really! Save the date: January 18th, 2013.

Planning ahead? More detailed information about Springwater Snow Day in the coming weeks, however we wanted to give you the chance to secure lodging accommodations on the mountain, if so desired. Springwater families will enjoy a fun-filled day in the snow on Mt. Hood – Friday, January 18th, 2013. You’re welcome to join us on the mountain for just the day, but in case you wanted to make it a weekend get-away or an overnight trip, here’s some useful information.

Green Kids… Green World Auction

Plans are underway for our upcoming auction on March 1 at the Abernethy Center in Oregon City. We are into the procurement and sponsor solicitation phase of the event. If you know of a business that may be interested in donating auction items, that would be wonderful. There are also great sponsorship opportunities available for the event, please see the attached flyer for sponsor details. We hope to raise $80,000 for this event. We need sponsors, great items and lots of people to attend. This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and we hope to involve every Springwater family in making it a success. Watch backpacks in the coming weeks for procurement forms. Last year we challenged each family to procure 5 items—let’s do it that again! I know we can do it!
