Amanda Schwanz: River Otters Teacher (5th/6th grade)

I am so excited to be a part of the Springwater community. I am an Oregon native who has spent many days out exploring this beautiful state of ours. I am married and have three wonderful children. Most of our family time you can find us out on the river swimming and kayaking or hiking through the woods. I also enjoy crafting, gardening, and reading. I am looking forward to meeting students and families and having a great school year.

Amanda is no stranger to Springwater.  She subbed and volunteered about 5 years ago at Springwater and fell in love with our mission and vision, as well as the muddy boots of FFS.  Amanda has her Masters in Arts of Teaching from Lewis and Clark College with a middle grades mathematics endorsement. She was in college with Jon.  She is a Beaver, earning her Bachelors of Science in Geography from OSU.  Having taught at two charter schools, Oregon Connections Academy and K-5 science at Highland Magnet School in Bend, Amanda has wide and varied work experiences that will add richness to our program. She has most recently been a 4th grade teacher at Hartley in PPS.  As an Americorp volunteer with Upper Deschutes Watershed Council, Amanda worked in the sciences.  Amanda also has served students in the SUN programs for several years.   Her gentle spirit and warm smile will guide students towards independence as 5/6 graders.
