Welcome to Springwater Environmental Sciences School!

We are Oregon City's first public charter school, founded by a core group of parents committed to promoting an excellent sciences-based education and supported by the Oregon City School District. Springwater's curriculum, class and school size, rural location, and level of parent involvement all combine to make it a unique educational opportunity for interested students.

Deb's Update - Math Studio (Oct. 19th) PDF Print E-mail

Math Studio:  We just participated in our first Math Studio.  The concept of a Math Studio likens the work of math teachers to that of an artist.  The math teacher and artist both use skill and creativity to make expert decisions that develop the product.  The math teacher's product is deep math thinking, evidenced by student writing or student talk.

During our math studio, teachers practiced capturing student thinking by recording the talk they heard around the room.  They also analyzed the type of written work produced.   Staff then organized the type of thoughts on a continuum, which details what type of talk represents Procedures and Facts, Justification, or Generalization.

Results from Snack with Deb:  Each week I meet with students who get their Super Scientist Slip chosen from a raffle. I ask two questions...what is going well...what could go better?
