Springwater has been operating as a public charter school in the Oregon City School District since the fall of 2006. For the 2010-11 school year, Springwater will enroll students in preschool and in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. The class make-up is as follows:
- One Oakleaf class (kindergarten)
- One Dragonfly class (1st grade)
- Two Salmon classes (2/3 blend)
- Two Blue Heron classes (4/5 blend)
- Two River Otter classes (6/7 blend)
- One Fox class (8th grade)
Enrollment for each class is limited to no more than 22 students.
Oregon City School District residents and residents of other districts are invited to apply to Springwater. If more students apply then there are available spaces at each grade level, successful applicants will be selected by lottery, with a preference given to in-district residents and siblings of current students. Like all Oregon public schools, there is no tuition assessed, and transportation options are available to ensure access to all successful applicants.
Who is eligible?
Any child who resides within the Oregon City School District boundaries is eligible. In addition, Springwater is allowed by law to admit out-of-district students if available spaces remain at the end of the lottery period.
Admissions Process
Currently, grades K-7 are full, with a few openings in the 8th grade, for the 10-11 school year. Springwater continues to accept applications for 8th grade openings and for wait lists at grades K-7, and may offer any slots that become available to wait listed students throughout the school year. The 2011-12 application process will begin with Open House information sessions, to be held at the school in February 2012 (datse to be announced). Attendance at one of these sessions is mandatory and applications for 2011-12 will be made available only at the Open Houses. At the Open Houses, participants will have an opportunity to meet Springwater staff, board members, and parents, learn about the school, take a tour of the building, and ask questions.
If more applications are received than there are slots available at any grade level, a lottery for that grade level will be held prior to spring break. Students who are already attending Springwater are automatically admitted for the following school year and do not need to reapply. In addition, siblings of current students will be admitted to any open slots prior to the lottery.
Parents will be notified of the results of the lottery in writing within one week of the lottery. An optional visitation day will be scheduled in early to mid-April to allow accepted students and their parents, as well as any wait-listed students and their parents who wish to participate, the opportunity to visit and observe on a day when Springwater is in session. This will give students and their parents an opportunity to meet and talk with Springwater students and to see the school “in action.” A notification deadline for accepted students will be set on or about May 1st.

Lottery
If more students apply by the annual deadline than there are spaces available at each grade level, state law requires that we hold an equitable lottery to determine admission. Each student will be given a number, and a random number chart will be used to select students for admission. Students who reside outside of the Oregon City School District will be admitted after in-district residents have been assigned slots through the lottery.
For applications received by the 2011-12 deadline, position on the waiting list will be determined by the lottery process. Applicants will be notified of their position on the waiting list, and openings will be filled in numerical order from the list. Springwater’s wait list will not roll over from year to year, but rather will be recreated after each lottery. All applicants interested in remaining on the wait list must re-apply annually. All applicants, including those currently on the wait list, will be lotteried equally, and a new wait list will be generated. The new wait list will be effective immediately following the lottery, and will remain in effect until the following year’s lottery. Applications will be accepted after the lottery and will be placed in a wait pool, to be drawn from once the wait list created from the lottery has been exhausted and an opening comes available.
The Board and employees of Springwater represent a diverse group of people with a common commitment to the equality of opportunity for all. Springwater does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, marital status, national origin, color, or disability.

Springwater Preschool
The Springwater Preschool will be accepting applications beginning February 8, 2010. Enrollment is all preschoolers, regardless of residency. We are a small preschool program located on the unique rural campus of Springwater Environmental Sciences School. We offer a tuition based program serving the Oregon City community and surrounding areas. Our class is a mixed age group with children between the ages of 3 to 5, with an exceptional class size of no more than 14 children and 2 teachers. We operate Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with two or four day options available.
The preschool curriculum is emergent and project based, with an emphasis on creating a positive environment for children to develop socially, interact with their peers, and build relationships. We believe that children construct their own ideas and theories about their world through play, exploration and experimentation. With these beliefs in place, we offer a unique early childhood experience for your preschooler.
