Annual Asbestos Notification

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ASBESTOS IN SCHOOLS

September 4, 2018

This information is provided as partial fulfillment of AHERA ( Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act ) rules requiring annual notification of workers and building occupants or their legal guardians of inspections, response actions, and post response action activities, including periodic re-inspections and surveillance activities that are planned or in progress.

A periodic surveillance of asbestos containing materials is performed in the school building every six months. This is done to ensure that asbestos containing materials are maintained in good condition. A complete re-inspection of all Springwater School was conducted in the winter of 2017 and will occur every 3 years. The re-inspections are conducted by an AHERA Accredited Inspector. The results of the re-inspection will be included in the AHERA Management Plan. A copy of the AHERA Management Plan is available in the office.

Over the past year, the school has not removed asbestos containing materials.

Springwater Environmental Sciences School continues to update and improve the AHERA Asbestos Management Plan. This work includes the sampling of materials that were originally assumed to contain asbestos. The improvements in the AHERA Asbestos Management Plan is intended to make them easier to use by staff and outside contractors that perform work within district buildings.

If you have any questions regarding asbestos or the district’s asbestos program, please contact Katie Rasouli.
