Regular board meeting – Feb. 10, 2014

Board members present:  Andrea, Genevieve, Myla, Gregg, Shelley, Tiffany, Casey, David, Mark

Board members absent:  None

Others in attendance:  Dawn

The Board met in work session at 6:20 pm.

The regular board meeting was called to order at 7:25 pm.

Principal’s Report:

Snow Day — over 300 people attended.

Writing Night was successful. The guest presenters were wonderful, and many of the upper grades (Foxes) students attended.

The winter enrichment classes are up and running again.  For example, there is a Dungeons and Dragons group, a ballet class, and Tony and Julie are teaching a cooking class for the Salmon.  We also have two students teaching:  Ellie Peterson and Aspen Jordan are teaching a hip hop class.  Jon is doing wittling, Loren is doing a drama class, there is a Green Team class, Faith is doing Student Council, and there is glitter club, gardening club, and jewelry making.

The artists have now started with their new groups.  We have a new music teacher named Danielle.  She was Rae’s student teacher.  Her previous employer was Trackers’ Northwest, and she has musical experience and background, as well.

Faith has officially resigned effective the end of the school year, so we will be posting her position for the 2014-15 school year.  Kassandra will be taking maternity leave beginning May 23rd.  Kassandra will have a student teacher soon; she will particularly focus on math instruction.

The Tidbits are now distributed in the Friday Flyer.  We have 235 subscribers, so the readership is high.

We have three Open Houses coming up:  We will have a Saturday session on February 22, 9:30-11:00, a Thursday session on February 25, 6:30-7:30,  and then on, Thursday, February 27th, an informational session for 5-8th grade, from 6:30-8:00 in the evening.  Both current families and incoming families can attend to ask questions about the upper grades.

At the March board meeting, we will be voting on teacher contracts.  Information will be provided in forthcoming board packets.

Auction Update:

The Board brainstormed ideas for a paddle raiser and determined that David would make the ask.

We will have $23,000 more in expenses than in receivables this year; however, we will remain in the black, as this figure does not reflect either cash carryover or the revenue from fundraisers.  These figures demonstrate the importance of our school fundraisers – without that income, we would be in a negative revenue situation.

Facility Issues:

The board discussed the recently obtained property appraisal and options for the purpose of the Logan property.  The board authorized Andrea to begin negotiations with OCSD, not to exceed the value of the appraisal.

The meeting adjourned at 8:36 pm.
