Battle of the Books January 22, 2013

Well, we are off and running – we had our first battle this afternoon! It was a well-played match between the Purple Mockingjays and the Rainbow Ninja Unicorns. Congrats to the Purple Mockingjays for taking the win!

I apologize for the delay in getting the schedules out to everyone – 3 out of 4 in my family (including me!) were hit by the bug that has been going around. It was *not* a pleasant weekend – so I am a little behind. However, hopefully that is behind us for now!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION BELOW- PLEASE READ!!

The brackets have been all worked out, and as matches are played, I will be updating the site so that everyone can be as aware as possible of what the schedule is. The battles will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:15, either in the computer lab or next door in Jen’s class. Please – if you are battling that day, *DO NOT BRING A LUNCH THAT NEEDS REHEATING*. The door will close at 12:20, and if you’re not in the room, then your team will have to battle without you! On Tuesdays, you can place your pizza orders in the computer lab. On Thursdays, your pizza will be delivered to you. Again: if you are not in the room when the doors close at 12:20, then you will not be let in! And if your team is missing players, they will have to choose whether to battle on without you or whether to forfeit the battle. The official Battle Rules & Procedures are available in .pdf format for anyone preparing for their match or just wondering what all of the fuss is about 🙂

The schedule so far is as follows:

Thursday, 1/24:

4-5 Division: OC Obobbers vs. The Readers

6-8 Division: Narwhal Book Eaters vs. Paperback Knights

Tuesday, 1/29:

4-5 Division: Fire & Ice vs. The Gamers

6-8 Division: Purple Mockingjays vs. Minecraft Mania

Thursday, 1/31:

4-5 Division: Night Owls vs. TDG Readers

6-8 Division: Rainbow Ninja Unicorns vs. ??

Parents & Coaches – you are encouraged to attend the battles! We need at least 2 people for each battle, so if you find that you will be there, we would love to have help. And even if you don’t have a student participating but have availability (even once!), then please let us know. Even if you don’t want to help with battles but wouldn’t mind doing lunchroom or playground duty, that would free up a teacher or two 🙂

So there you have it. Good luck to all of the teams, and don’t be discouraged by a loss – remember, it’s double-elimination. Play well, play fair, and be respectful – and HAVE FUN!

Let the games begin!
