Friday Field Study

Classes will be going out in the field after Jogathon (with the exception of Kindergarten). Some will be going out directly after the fundraiser and will eat lunch in the field, others will eat at school before heading out. Schedules vary by class, so check with your child’s teacher if you’d like to volunteer. All students will need field gear.

FFS Background Checks

If you plan to go out in the field on Friday Field Study, you must first pass a background check. Stop by or call the office by Wednesday to give April a chance to complete this before Friday.

Starting at 8:15am on Field Studies Fridays, you are invited to grab a cup of coffee and join in an informal Q and A session with members of the Leadership team and Board.  Comments from the Suggestion Box will also be addressed.

Covered Area Update

Covered Area Update

We have had a busy summer here at Springwater. Unfortunately, that means we had to temporarily put our covered area on the back burner while we addressed staffing and major building repairs. Rest assured that we haven’t forgotten about all of the money that was so generously given during the auction paddle raise. We are moving forward with the project, and currently we are working with an architect to have blueprints drawn up. Please remember to have patience, and show grace as we move through this process; and know that we, as a board, are working very hard to keep everything on track…. including our covered area! Stay tuned for more information, as we will do our best to keep the community informed as we make progress. Thank you to everyone for being part of our community! FFS Parent Training

This Friday (9/7), Jen will lead a FFS Volunteer Orientation from 8:35 to 10:00. She will be sharing some new terms of our Special Use Permit with Metro and school-wide FFS expectations. If you ever plan to go our on FFS with students, your attendance is important. Jen will be sharing practices to help you build a sense of place with small groups of students that will carry through the year.

Dear Springwater families,

We hope everyone is enjoying the final days of summer and the excitement that comes with the beginning of a new school year! 

We have wonderful news to share with you about our summer collaboration between the Board and Staff.   

This email is the first of a series of three announcements for you in the coming days.  Here, we are pleased to announce our Transitional Leadership Team for the 2018-2019 school year and their responsibilities during our leadership transition.  We also include here our Leadership points of contact on all school matters – contact information is below. 

Our next announcement will include the class lists and an exciting new teacher introduction. 

Our final announcement in this series will update you on our collaborative process of creating Springwater’s permanent leadership model for school year 2019-2020 and beyond.  We will also announce a schedule of Board Q & A Sessions and Community Outreach Events to discuss the school leadership models. 

TRANSITIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM MEMBERS

We proudly announce our Transitional Leadership Team for school year 2018-2019:

* Jen Wozniak, ICC

* Heidi Blackwell, Transitional Support Specialist 

Dawn transitioned to an off-site advisor role supporting charter compliance and other operational duties, as needed.  She no longer handles on-site matters for our students, staff, or families.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRANSITIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM & POINTS OF CONTACT

Katie, Jen, and Heidi share leadership responsibilities and serve complementary roles to each other.

Katie and Jen serve as the public face of the school.  They will be in the front office to handle all student and family matters including discipline, parent inquiries, family communication, staff support and facilitation (contract staff members), and emergencies.  Additionally, Katie and Jen are responsible for coordinating K-8 instruction, supporting teachers, and building community at Springwater.  Katie is on-site Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and Jen is on-site Mondays and Fridays.  On Wednesdays, Jen continues to teach art and coordinates with Katie to ensure smooth co-leadership.

Heidi shares leadership responsibilities with Katie and Jen but has an emphasis on administrative duties.  Heidi provides charter compliance and operational support, including budgeting, scheduling, enrollment, policies, staff support and facilitation (non-contract staff), and other school-wide needs.  She also serves as a resource for families in a supporting role to Katie and Jen.   Heidi has a 1-year contract for her Transitional Support Specialist role. 

Heidi remains our Special Education lead and will be supported by a new part-time Instructional Assistant in Special Ed.  Heidi dedicates Mondays and Fridays to her administrative duties while reserving Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for her Special Ed responsibilities.

Katie, Jen, and Heidi each report directly to the Board.

August 30th Meet and Greet

Dear Springwater Community,

We hope to see you at school next Thursday! Supply drop-off and an open house meet-and-greet with teachers is from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The supply drop-off helps teachers start with organized classrooms on the first day of school. If you pre-ordered supply packs (which will be at school on 9/4) you should still try to make the open house. It is a great opportunity for students to have a moment of friendly personal interaction with their teacher and gives parents and teachers a chance to chat informally. The open house makes for a smooth, easy landing back at school for all involved.
While you’re at school, please stop by the office and check with April to make sure all your paperwork is complete, and turn in medications are turned in. She reminds families that your PikMyKid account needs to be updated for the first day of school. If you need help, she can get you set up on Thursday.
Please consider coming in earlier on Thursday. You may have seen invitations on Facebook to help Katherine in the garden from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. We’re extending the invitation to “Care For Place”, including the school grounds (there will be a mountain of bark chips to spread), school communal spaces, and classrooms. Even if you only have a short time to help, we’d love to have you. Support teachers old and new, welcome new families, and show them how we work together as a school community.

Springwater Biking Program

Springwater School was recently awarded the “Riding For Focus” grant that will bring an amazing Biking program complete with curriculum and 24 Specialized mountain bikes to our school. This film was our submission and start to our new physical education program at Springwater that is designed around biking and “Riding For Focus”. Springwater was awarded this grant starting the Fall of 2018 we will have a complete biking program for our students. This video was created by a Springwater parent and board member Justin Bearden.
