Unlike most Oregon public schools, who attend Outdoor School (ODS) only in 6th grade, Springwater students attend this week-long camp with their classmates every Spring from 5th through 8th grades. This provides plenty of opportunity for hands-on outdoor learning in keeping with our educational focus.
ODS destinations for the different classes will be:
- 5th Grade: Opal Creek Ancient Forest with Troy
- 6th Grade: Beverly Beach with Amanda *see full description below
- 7th and 8th Grades: John Day Fossil Beds with Kassandra and Hannah
Parents will receive more information regarding these trips in the spring.
ODS participation is expected and integral to the Springwater education and the cost is $275/student. Scholarships are available for families in need. Requests should be made through Dawn.

6th Grade Outdoor School
The 6th graders will be traveling to Newport on the Oregon Coast. We will be staying in eight yurts located at Beverly Beach State Park. We will also be participating in many exciting activities, including a whale watching trip, dune hike, tidepooling, Sandy Beach lab, Estuary lab, Mysteries of the Deep lab, coastal forest hike, beach art competition, and nightly bonfires. Many of these activities will be lead by professional scientists, environmental educators or community organizations. The organizations we will be working with are:
- Oregon Coast Aquarium
- Yaquina Head Natural Outstanding Area
- Hatfield Marine Science Center
- Marine Discovery Tours
- Friends of Mike Miller Park
and many other state parks located in and around Newport.
